PTFE Sheet

PTFE Sheet

Virgin PTFE sheet (often incorrectly referred to as Teflon™ sheet) is a high performance thermoplastic that offers very low moisture absorption, provides exceptionally low coefficient of friction has excellent dielectric strength. It is highly resistant to corrosion and hydrolysis, has a broad operating temperature and is chemically inert (with the exception of elemental alkali metals, chlorine trifluoride and elemental fluorine at high temperatures and pressures). PTFE sheet is also food approved and resistant to UV, but is subject to creep and is not suitable for use with highly abrasive materials.

Due to its characteristics, PTFE can be used to contain highly aggressive chemicals as a gasket, lining or bushing. The material can also be used as a slide plate or bearing in low friction applications and is suitable for use as an electrical insulator. If you are seeking to bond PTFE sheet with an adhesive, we can supply a chemically etched option that will adhere to materials such as metals, rubbers and other plastics. We also have the capability to machine PTFE to bespoke requirements from drawings or existing samples. For more information regarding the services we can provide, please visit our plastic machining section.

Virgin PTFE sheet is available to buy online at PAR Direct by clicking the link above in a range of sheet sizes and thicknesses.

Availability

Also available: PTFE Virgin Rod and PTFE Virgin Tube. For availability information regarding etched and dimpled, please view the 'Other Grades of Virgin PTFE Available' section at the bottom of this page.

Note: Due to the nature of PTFE and the manufacturing process, sheets less than 6mm thick may not be flat in appearance. Thicker sheets are generally moulded and can help to ensure a flat appearance, whereas thinner sheets are skived from thicker material. Tolerances vary dependent on thickness, for information regarding standard sheet tolerances, please see our tolerance information pdf. Other sheet sizes and thicknesses may be available, please enquire.

Other Grades of Virgin PTFE Available

PTFE Sheet - Etched
Virgin PTFE Sheet - Etched

Etched PTFE has a chemically modified surface that allows the material to be bonded to metals, rubbers and other plastics. It is commonly used in tank lining applications and is available in thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm up to 100mm in a sheet size of 1200²mm as standard, please enquire for more information.

PTFE Sheet - Dimpled
Virgin PTFE Sheet - Dimpled

Primarily used as a sliding plate in pot bearings, dimpled PTFE is designed to harbour lubricant that would otherwise be forced out under repeated movement between two movable plates. It is available in 1200²mm sheets in thickness options of 4.5, 6, 7 and 8mm, please enquire for more information.

We can also supply modified TFM™ PTFE if required. TFM™ PTFE offers lower deformation under load, lower permeation due to denser polymer structure, better weldability, improved stress recovery, smoother surface finishes and higher transparency. Please note that TFM™ PTFE may be subject to lead times and availability.
