Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) displays excellent durability, wear resistance, tear strength and food contact approval. PAR Group frequently manufacture TPU into chutes, sleeves, connectors, gaskets, linings, covers, belts and lids for the food industry.
Overview
A UK based cereal food manufacturer had a range of old, dented IBC’s (intermediate bulk containers). Due to age and use, the lids of the IBC’s would no longer fit onto the IBC opening. This caused several issues, including product escaping from the container and contaminants getting into the container. The customer wanted some flexible lids manufacturing so the containers could continue to be used, avoiding the requirement to purchase new ones.
The Solution
The customer provided our PAR sales team with dimensions of the opening along with a sketch of the shape required. The lids needed to provide a tight fit so as to properly seal the top of the IBC, so accurate measurements were necessary. The blue thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) material was then cut using our CNC profile cutting technology, ensuring dimensional accuracy. The blue TPU material was chosen due to it’s flexibility, durability and food contact approvals. The separate components were then fabricated together to create the lid shape required. The IBC lids successfully sealed the containers, saving the customer both time and money.
