Polyester reticulated air filter foams are often used in filtration applications as they are open-cell. This means the foam does not swell when it comes into contact with water, fuel, soaps, detergents, mineral oils, or greases. However, most organic solvents, such as benzene, ethanol, and chloroform, will cause this material to swell.
We can offer this foam in various grades with different pores per linear inch (PPI). Foams with a higher PPI provide greater resistance to airflow, so the lower the PPI, the less resistance the foam offers airflow. Our standard-grade air filer foam is flame retardant; this allows it to perform well at high temperatures. Although we can provide polyester foam alternatives that are non-flame retardant or polyester foam suitable for use with aquatic life if your application requires these characteristics (longer lead times may apply).
