PTFE sheet, also referred to as polytetrafluoroethylene or Teflon™ is a high performance engineering plastic. It has a broad operating temperature, is chemically inert (with the exception of some alkali metals), and has an extremely low co-efficient of friction. PTFE also provides outstanding dielectric properties and resistance to corrosion, but is subject to creep due to the materials non-stick surface.
At PAR Group, we offer a range of grades that provide different characteristics. Our standard and most popular grade of PTFE plastic is Virgin, which complies with FDA and EC food contact regulations. This grade can be supplied with an etched backing that allows the material to be bonded to other materials or, alternatively, with a dimpled surface if required. Carbon, glass, stainless steel and bronze filled composites are available and provide improved dimensional stability, resistance to creep and offer other individual benefits such as static dissipation or thermal conductivity. We can also supply metal detectable options for use in food processing applications and skived PTFE if an adhesive backing is required.
Due to the materials characteristics, PTFE sheet is machined into a broad range of finished products for use in industries such as aerospace, chemical, printing and publishing, power generation and food and pharmaceutical. PTFE is commonly manufactured into gaskets and seals, insulators, slide bearings, slide plates and linings. Although PTFE is easy to machine, the material is difficult to bond (unless it is supplied with a chemically etched backing) and is not suitable for applications involving highly abrasive materials due to its soft surface.
We offer a plastic machining service utilising highly advanced CNC technology and have the capability to manufacture parts from simple to complex shapes should you require. PTFE rod and tube are also available. For more information on each grade please follow the links below or click the 'buy online' button above.
