Polypropylene Sheet

Polypropylene Sheet

Polypropylene sheet is a tough, lightweight engineering plastic that offers low water absorption and excellent resistance to acids, alkalis and organic solvents. The mechanical strength, impact resistance and thermal/electrical insulation properties of this material make it a popular material across a variety of industries.

It is commonly used in the chemical sector as a lining for acid and chemical tanks or in the food manufacturing industry due to its FDA approval. With a recommended operating service temperature of -20°C up to +80°C, polypropylene is easy to form and weld, but can become brittle at lower temperatures.

Drilling and machining for long spells is also not recommended due to the low melting temperature rating of +160°C. Polypropylene sheet is available in two versatile grades, PPH (Homopolymer) and PPC (Copolymer), our standard range of Polypropylene sheet is available to buy online at PAR Direct by clicking the link above.

Applications

Chemical apparatus, water treatment components, seals, insulators, ventilation ducts, pallets, drip pans, crash doors and wall cladding. Polypropylene also offers good thermal and electrical insulation and is also resistant to many acid, alkalis and organic solvents making it an ideal choice for fabrication jobs in chemical and effluent treatment plants.

Key Features

  • Temperature: -20°C up to +80°C (PPC)
  • Temperature: 0°C up to +100°C (PPH)
  • Very low water absorption and low density.
  • Excellent resistance to dilute acids, cleaning agents and numerous solvents.
  • Easy to machine, form and weld.
  • FDA approved.

Availability

Also available: Polypropylene Rod.

Polypropylene Homopolymer (PPH)

Homopolymer offers a higher rigidity and chemical stability than copolymer. It is easily machined and fabricated making it suitable for machined parts and rollers.

Polypropylene Copolymer (PPC)

Offers slightly increased elongation at break compared with polypropylene homopolymer.

Note: If a specific colour of material is required, please state this in writing at the point of enquiry. Black polypropylene copolymer (PPC) in 3mm, 4.5mm and 6mm thick is typically stocked with an embossed pattern surface on one side and smooth on the other side as standard. When cutting or forming embossed polypropylene we treat the embossed side as being the top surface / outside of the formed or bonded article, unless we are advised otherwise in writing prior to order and we write back to confirm acceptance of a variation.
